About the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir

Musical Director: Colin Touchin

Since being founded in 1978 by a small group of Welsh expats in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir has gone from strength to strength, building a high reputation not only at home but also internationally.  The Choir remains entirely an amateur, not-for-profit ensemble and many of its performances at home and overseas are for charitable purposes, including the ChoirAid concerts staged and 2014 to raised funds for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 and the Nepal earthquakes in 2015.  Around the region the choir headline annual events in the Philippines and Thailand, and have also performed in Beijing, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City.  In October 2016 they have again been invited to participate in the Festival of Welsh Choirs in London's Albert Hall.

About the Unsung Heroes

Musical Director: Jane Engelmann

Comprised exclusively of overseas foreign workers, many from the Philippines, the Unsung Heroes were first assembled in 2014 by Jane Engelmann, a Hong Kong based performing arts teacher. In less than a year, the choir have grown to more than 70 members and will be featured in the forthcoming documentary "The Helper" - a Kickstarter funded project that exceeded its target due in large part to the inspiring stories of these women performers. Fresh from a stunning performance at Clockenflap including a set with the musical rock legend Nile Rodgers and Chic, the Unsung Heroes will perform their signature song "I Wish I could Kiss You Goodnight."  Jane composed the song in recognition of the bravery of so many domestic workers who put other people's children to bed at night instead of their own.
